Rui Reguinga, Alentejo, Portugal
In the highlands of the Alentejo, within the Serra de São Mamede Natural Park, Terrenus is Rui Reguinga’s vision of authentic viticulture, where tradition, altitude, and biodiversity come together.
Established in 2004, Terrenus brings together 12.5 hectares of vineyards across seven small plots, located between 600 and 750 meters of altitude. These conditions, rare in Alentejo, offer a cooler microclimate that encourages slow grape maturation, resulting in natural freshness, balanced acidity, and moderate alcohol levels — a distinctive expression of the region.
Old vines are at the heart of Terrenus. The first parcels acquired feature vines cultivated in a "clos" style, surrounded by traditional dry-stone walls. The vineyards are rooted in schist soils to the north and granite to the south, giving a varied and complex character. Vine ages range from around 50 years to over 100 years in the oldest plots, some planted with a diverse mix of native Portuguese varieties.
Farming respects organic principles, with no herbicides and a strong commitment to maintaining biodiversity. Olive trees, chestnut trees, and cherry trees grow alongside the vines, enriching the landscape and preserving the natural balance of the terroir.
Terrenus reflects a dedication to patience, respect for nature, and the belief that true character comes from working with, not against, the environment.
