Textura Wines, Portugal

In the Dão region, on the slopes of Serra da Estrela, Textura Wines is building a new legacy rooted in tradition, respect for nature, and the preservation of Portugal’s viticultural heritage. Founded in 2018 as a family project by Marcelo Araujo and Patricia Berardi, Textura Wines brings together 30 hectares of vineyards across nine plots in Vila Nova de Tazem and Penalva do Castelo.

All vineyards have been farmed organically since the start, with full certification achieved in 2022. Their work focuses on reflecting the Dão’s pure granitic soils and natural freshness through minimal intervention winemaking.

At the heart of the project are old vines, a living connection to the history of the region. Textura manages 1.7 hectares of vines aged between 45 and 55 years, producing pure expressions like Textura da Estrela Jaen and Tinta Pinheira. In collaboration with local growers, they also work with older field blend vineyards, including a 55-year-old plot and a century-old vineyard, where red and white varieties are inter planted and harvested separately.

The philosophy at Textura is clear: to protect and celebrate biodiversity, to preserve the soil’s natural vitality, and to create wines that speak honestly of their place. By rescuing abandoned vineyards and nurturing the old vine heritage of Dão, Textura Wines is helping to ensure that the soul of this unique region continues to thrive.
