Quinta da Vacaria, Douro Valley, Portugal

In the heart of the Douro Valley, where the Corgo and Douro rivers meet, lies one of Portugal’s oldest estates, founded in 1616: Quinta da Vacaria. With over 400 years of continuous wine production, it represents one of the region’s most historic properties.

Quinta da Vacaria spans 42 hectares of vineyards near Peso da Régua, with altitudes between 50 and 500 meters. Its privileged location and schist soils provide ideal conditions for traditional Douro grape varieties, such as Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, and Viosinho.

A key part of their identity lies in its old vines, some more than a century old. These low-yield, deep-rooted vines produce grapes of exceptional concentration and complexity, resulting in wines that express the Douro’s true character with greater depth, structure, and longevity.

Today, all wines are bottled at the estate, ensuring full control over quality. The winemaking philosophy combines traditional practices, such as manual harvesting and minimal intervention, with modern techniques that respect the unique expression of each vineyard parcel.

Quinta da Vacaria’s focus on preserving and working with old vines reflects a long-term commitment to authenticity and sustainability. These vines are not only a connection to the past but also the foundation for the estate’s future, producing wines that are true ambassadors of the Douro and Portugal’s viticultural heritage.
