PINEA, Ribera del Duero, Spain

PINEA is a project defined by a unique tension – the delicate balance between tradition and the future. A winery that honours Ribera del Duero’s deep heritage while pushing forward, revealing a region with untold stories, still waiting to be discovered.

Located in the northern part of Ribera del Duero, PINEA’s vineyards lie at altitudes between 880 and 940 meters, among the highest in the region. This privileged terroir, rich in limestone, creates wines that speak of purity, freshness, and elegance. Cardisanto, one of the highest vineyards in Ribera del Duero, plays a crucial role in PINEA’s wines, but it is the exceptional terroir of their entire domain that forms the true identity of PINEA.

PINEA’s journey began in 2014, a relatively young project that, in less than a decade, has earned significant international acclaim. Its wines now grace the tables of some of the most prestigious gastronomic destinations around the world. The project began with a singular goal: to redefine the soul of Ribera del Duero. With vineyards ranging from 25 to 60 years old, the winery pays homage to the land’s rich history, while also seeking to shape its future. The revival of old vines is central to PINEA’s exploration of what this region can truly offer. These “lost vines” are integral to PINEA’s mission to showcase the untapped potential of Ribera del Duero, with KORDE serving as the most creative and radical expression of this vision.

The name KORDE is inspired by the ancient Vacceos, a Celtic tribe from the Iberian Peninsula. It means “the connection of hearts through words,” reflecting the estate’s profound bond with its land.

Since the 2022 vintage, PINEA has made a clear shift toward wines with lower alcohol content, harvested earlier to preserve the natural vibrancy of the fruit. This focus on freshness and purity allows the fruit to take centre stage, without being overshadowed by excessive oak or overpowering influences.

Experimentation with aging vessels – from French and Austrian oak to foudres, concrete eggs, and ceramic deposits – ensures that every plot of land finds its perfect match for aging. This ongoing process allows the fruit and the terroir to remain the stars, creating wines that are true to their origins, expressed through a lens of subtlety, elegance and freshness.

PINEA is a project that is redefining what this iconic region can be, through wines that bring the best of the past and future into perfect harmony.
