Isobel Salamon, Australia
Isobel Salamon is an Australian-born, Edinburgh-based wine writer, educator, consultant and wine judge. Her work explores the relationships between wine, culture and place, connecting audiences with the people and traditions that shape what we drink.
Founder of wine consultancy Slonk and CLAY Amphora Wine Fair, Isobel contributes to publications including Decanter and curates tastings, masterclasses and events for trade and consumer audiences. She has a specific interest in regional identity and how traditional practices continue to inform contemporary winemaking.
Originally from Western Australia, Isobel has a particular passion for the old vines of her home state, especially those of the Swan Valley. She is excited by the extraordinary diversity of Australia’s old vineyards, with a special affection for old vine Grenache, and by the energy, ingenuity and commitment of those working to secure their future.
As Regional Ambassador for Australia, she champions the producers, growers and communities working to protect and sustain the country’s old vines. Through storytelling, education and events, she aims to bring their work to wider international attention, building appreciation for these vineyards and the people who keep them thriving.
