Italian Programs Director, Andrea Eby, explains why WSG has become a member of The Old Vine Conference:

“In 2022 I was lucky enough to be invited to the first ever Old Vine Conference Field Trip in Friuli Venezia Giulia. That experience has forever changed the way I view old vines. Where once I only appreciated them for their potential to produce wines of great concentration and complexity, today I see them as vital to the survival of modern viticulture and winemaking. Old vines can be both a portal to the past and the future. The vines we saw have sustained generations of people, and they represent a cultural patrimony that must be protected. They carry within them not only priceless genetic information but also clues to how we might adapt modern farming in the face of a changing climate. I believe we are only just beginning to understand the true potential of what these vines can teach us, and I am excited to work with the team at The Old Vine Conference to help spread the message to our WSG instructors, students and members around the world. “
