Pre-phylloxera, ungrafted Aglianico vines

Feudi di San Gregorio’s vigneto dal Re vineyard, in Irpinia, Campania

‘Serpico: it’s not just a wine, its a symbol of our capacity to treasure our past, our incredible heritage and transform it purposefully for our future’

ITALY: In the heart of Campania, in the region of Irpinia and specifically the Taurasi area, lies Feudi de San Gregorio’s vigneto dal Re (vineyard of the King), a 2ha vineyard of 400, pre-phylloxera, ungrafted Aglianico vines which is the source of Serpico, their celebrated old vine wine.

In this video Antonio Capaldo of Feudi di San Gregorio explains the significance of this small plot of ancient vines. This ‘open-air’ museum displays a unique and ancient biodiversity and is living proof of how, when given the chance, nature can not only survive for generations but self-regulate to create optimal balance and a genetic wealth of bio-types that can be used to grow resilient and healthy vines of the future.
