Old Vine Heroes Award launch & results:

The Old Vine Hero Awards is one of the most far reaching elements of the annual campaign; uniting the global wine industry and recognising the work of those contributing incomparably towards the positive progression of the old vine movement. 2024 will introduce 5 categories to the Old Vine Hero Awards to recognise the breadth and depth of the work being carried out around the world.

The awards are judged by the OVC Global team, OVC Regional Ambassadors and a panel of independent expert judges. Nominations will open at the end of January. Results will be announced on the 25th March in London.


The Wine Society 150th Anniversary Old Vine Masterclass, London

26th & 27th January 2024 (UK)

Three Old Vine Masterclasses at The Wine Society’s London anniversary tastings hosted by Sarah Abbott MW that will explore 8 wines made from vines aged between 100 - 150 years old. In each session Sarah will explain exactly what makes these wines special and what influence she believes the vine age has had on the quality and style.

Circle of Wine Writers ‘Lets talk about: Old Vines: viticulture & vinification’
5th March 2024, 2-3pm (UK)

Join Sarah Abbott MW, co-founder of The Old Vine Conference as she talks to three prolific old vine wine producers about how the careful farming of their heritage vineyards is expressed in the wines they produce. Domenico Veronese, owner of Villa Bogdano 1880 in the Veneto, Andreas Kubach MW, company co-founder and director of Bideona in Rioja Alavesa and a spokesperson from Louis M Martini in California will discuss and compare the different viticultural techniques employed by each winery and the micro-vinification projects they are each undertaking that express the unique characteristics of their old vine plots. Old Vine Wine Week:

A weeklong series of activities designed in conjunction with major trade partners and winery members. Working together to identify great wines and old vine stories to showcase via in-store tastings, old vine wine flights, general merchandising, providing sample stock and utilising old vine winemakers in town to bring the stories to life. Engaging with traditional & social media to build excitement and awareness of #oldvinewineweek and engage, inspire, educate and connect with each channel of the trade about old vine wines.

We continue our partnership with 67 Pall Mall and will host our second annual trade and media walk around tasting in their St James’ room. Registration will open in April.


THE OLD VINE CONFERENCE 2024:

17th & 18th October 2024 (virtual)

2024 will see the annual Conference continue in its virtual setting allowing global participants the chance to access sessions live or on-demand. OVC members will be invited to host or join panels to discuss old vine projects relevant to individual sessions. Old vine experts from around the world will share insights and findings from work they are doing and educate our growing and highly engaged global audience of wine trade professionals, media, producers, educators, Masters of Wine and wine enthusiasts.


Old Vine Conference Field-Trips:
Ongoing

Our first Old Vine Conference field-trip was held in November 2022 and brought together 14 international wine trade professionals and media to discover the ancient vines of Northeast Italy. Since then we have hosted similarly eye-opening and content rich old vine fieldtrips to: Campania, Rioja Alavesa and Piedmont and in April 2024 we will visit Jumilla. The itineraries are based on creating an immersive experience mixing vineyard visits with tastings, tours, seminars and workshops organised and hosted in conjunction with OVC member wineries and generic bodies.
